One of our Script Buffet Club members, Kevin Boozer, enjoys doing "Puppet Camps" with students. Although Kevin has enjoyed Readers Theater scripts, he has also written some of his own puppet scripts to use in Puppet Camp.
Are you looking for puppet scripts? Kevin's short, humorous script "Blueberries for Sale" might be one to grab for free since Kevin generously agreed for us to share it with teachers around the globe. Although it's only 2 pages long, the play is silly fun that should appeal to a wide range of students and adults. (I have slightly edited Kevin's script for clarity.)
You'll need the following:
• 2 puppets (one a BLUE sock puppet)
• 1-2 readers* OR 3-4 readers (1-2 move the puppets and 1-2 read the script aloud)
• (optional) microphone with speaker or audio recording of the script being read since puppet voices may not project well for an audience to hear
• (optional) video recording device for recording a puppet slide video or puppet play
* 1 reader could perform this silly partner play by changing voices for different characters
Notice: Kevin has included stage directions in the script to help the performance for an audience. He clues readers in on actions and tone of voice for the puppets. You will have to train your students to NOT READ aloud the stage directions.
Puppets can motivate some students to "become" a different character, but so can Readers Theater. Puppets slightly complicate Readers Theater with stage directions and puppet movements, but students love performing puppet plays for others–especially a younger audience.
Students can learn to create their own puppets for Puppet Camp and puppet plays, so puppet scripts can become a project-based learning activity. Students can learn to write both puppet plays and Readers Theater scripts. Both Readers Theater and Puppet Plays can enhance literacy and learning.

Barry: [Looks her way]. [In a sad voice] Oh, hey, Peppi. How are you?
Peppi: I’m ok. But you look a little blue. [Ha ha]
Barry: Yeah. Well, there is ONE of you. It’s cool. You are the ONLY Peppi I know. But I just heard an announcement on the radio. At Lever Farms there are a LOT of BLUE BARRIES. LOTS. TONS.
Peppi: Uh Barry, buddy. They mean…
Barry:[excited] And what’s more—they are FOR SALE!
Peppi: [sigh] Oh boy.
Barry: [more upset, moving around] So… I don’t want to be for sale! Not by the pound. Not by the peck. Not by the… basket! Irraaagh! (Continued...)
