Sled dogs.  Saving children.  Non-fiction adventure.  "The Great Race of Mercy 1925 (Part 3)" concludes this exciting 3-part story from history.   Invite your students to participate in the Great Race of Mercy in 1925 that saved children and adults in Nome, Alaska, from a diphtheria epidemic.  Although this is the last script of the full story, you will find other related scripts in our Iditarod section (e.g., "Togo–Sled Dog Hero").  Like all of our scripts, "The Great Race of Mercy 1925 (Part 3)" comes complete with annotated curriculum links for easy lesson plans.  The Iditarod, held in March in Alaska every year, commemorates The Great Race of Mercy (also known as The Great Serum Race).  Students love tracking the adventure and reliving the thrill of people committed to helping save the lives of others.  Perfect for elementary students in grades 3-5 and English language learners, "The Great Race of Mercy (Part 1, 2, & 3)" motivates further reading by making history and adventure come alive!  Note:  We also have a middle school and simplified version of this script.

A Script Buffet Club member requested a script on the Iditarod, the Alaskan race commemorating the historic Great Race of Mercy (also known as the Great Serum Race).  "Togo–Sled Dog Hero (Part 1)" shows Togo's adventure as a puppy BEFORE being a sled dog in the Great Race of Mercy–the 1925 race against a diphtheria epidemic threatening to wipe out Nome.  Although this is a stand-alone script, your students will enjoy learning more about Togo in Part 2 (ice adventure) and Part 3 (the Great Race of Mercy).  Complete with 45 annotated curriculum links for easy lesson plans, "Togo–Sled Dog Hero (Part 1, Advanced)" integrates character-building examples with nature's wildness to motivate readers in grades 5, 6, and 7.  (NOTE:  We have a simplified version for grades 2 and 3, plus our original version for grades 4 and 5.)  This historical adventure is part of our growing Iditarod collection.

Togo ran as lead sled dog for the historic Great Race of Mercy–also known as the Great Serum Race in 1925.  "Togo–Sled Dog Hero, a True Story (Part 1–Simplified)" tells a story of Togo as a "delinquent" pup.  Although this script may stand alone, students will want to read parts 2 and 3 to learn more about the sled dog hero.  This character-building script includes over 45 annotated curriculum links for easy lesson plans.  There are three versions of this script:  original (R= 4.7 ), simplified (R= 3.1 ), and advanced (R = 5.9 ).  The simplified version in the easiest version.  (We also have a primary level set of 3 short scripts on the life of Togo, "Togo Tales–From Pup to Hero" with a readability of grade 1.2)  A Script Buffet Club member requested a script on the Iditarod, so now we have a growing collection for readers of different levels.

Woo-hoo!  A Script Buffet Club member requested a Readers Theater script related to the exciting Iditarod sled dog race. One of a series of scripts on this famous sled-dog race in Alaska.  Based on the non-fiction children's book Iditarod Dream–Dusty and His Sled Dogs Compete in Alaska's Junior Iditarod, this true Readers Theater script brings a sled-dog adventure to life.  With reflections from history and the sled dog heroes "Dusty and the Junior Iditarod" escorts the reader into a two-day adventure tracing part of the original Iditarod Trail with Dusty.  Complete with annotated curriculum links for easy lesson plans, you'll find many ideas for integrating subjects.  Perfect for gifted, upper elementary or middle school students, this is the advanced script adaptation.  (We also have a simplified version and our original version–R = 4.3.)

Historical serum race.  Sled dogs.  Non-fiction.  Here's Part 2 of our simplifed version of our Readers Theater script "Dusty and the Junior Iditarod.'  Based on the non-fiction book Iditarod Dream–Dusty and His Sled Dogs Compete in Alaska's Junior Iditarod, Part 1 of "Dusty and the Junior Iditarod"  summarizes the history of the Iditarod race and sets the stage for Dusty's Junior Iditarod race in Part 2.  Although Part 2 may be used as a stand-alone script (without Part 1), your students will miss the brief history of the Great Serum Race and Dusty's lifestyle mentioned in Part 1 (about 4 minutes).  Complete with annotated curriculum links for easy lesson plans, you'll find many ideas for integrating subjects.  Perfect for gifted primary students, struggling students, and ELL or ESOL students, this is Part 2 of the easiest version of Dusty's true story adapted for Readers Theater.  Our original script is readability grade 4.3 and takes about 2 minutes longer.
